Promotion 6 December
On 6 December 2011 Thijs Muizelaar defended his PhD thesis 'Non-recurrent Traffic Situations and Traffic Information: determining preferences and effects on route choice' at the University of Twente. Congratulations Thijs!
Non-recurrent traffic situations are defined using the cause and effects of congestion, as well as the familiarity, experience and perception of a traveller. For these situations, the preference for traffic information differs. This predominantly depends on the cause of congestion and personal characteristics. In case of accidents, traffic information and route guidance significantly improve the travel experience by reducing delay and travel time as drivers adapt their route choices.
